National athletes are also frontliners, says party-list bet

MANILA, Philippines – A party-list candidate cited Filipino national athletes for inspiring the nation as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on.

If elected, Frontliners vowed to also support the Filipino athletes, saying they share the same goal as hardworking doctors, nurses, police and soldiers — all of whom are dedicated to serve the nation at any given time, place and situation.

“While our doctors and nurses are so busy saving lives at the height of the pandemic, our athletes have lifted the spirit of the entire nation especially during the Tokyo Olympics when we won our first ever gold medal in the Olympics,” Frontliners’ first nominee Jayke Joson said.

“The Olympic gold medal victory of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz last July, as well as the silver medals of boxers Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, and bronze medal of Eumir Felix Marcial have motivated around the country the million frontliners to work very hard and keep their faith to God,” he added

Joson, a former actor and well-known film producer, will be gunning for one of 63 party-list seats in next year’s elections, aiming to represent frontliners.

He said athletes also deserve to be represented.

“Our national athletes are also frontliners who fight for the pride of our nation at these trying times. Just like our beloved healthcare workers and peacekeeping forces, we have to support the campaign of our athletes to keep a strong nation at this time,” Joson added.

The group filed its certificate of candidacy on Thursday morning before the Commission on Elections at Sofitel Hotel in Manila.
