Hanoi SEA Games being postponed?
MANILA, Philippines — The Southeast Asian Games Federation will meet tomorrow to discuss the possibility of rescheduling the 31st SEA Games edition in Hanoi, Vietnam in November due to the rising COVID-19 cases in the region.
“May sked kami meeting to give our vote and stand,” Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abaraham Tolentino yesterday told The STAR.
The PhilCycling chief belied reports that circulated yesterday that Vietnam had already postponed the biennial games. He stressed nothing is cast in stone yet.
“Not yet final so ano change of mind kung wala pa final. Aantayin pa meeting,” he said.
The recent development came just a week after the Philippines started inoculating most of its athletes, coaches, officials and delegates bound for the biennial event following Vietnam’s “no vaccine, no play” directive.
The Philippines, which is seeking to repeat as overall champion after topping the 2019 edition it hosted, is fielding in 626 athletes in 39 of the 40 sports in the Hanoi calendar.
