John Lloyd Cruz confirms to star in primetime GMA-7 show, refers to Maja as Ms. M
MANILA, Philippines — John Lloyd Cruz is confirmed to make a TV comeback via a primetime show on GMA-7.
TV host Willie Revillame shared the good news on Sunday during the Shopee 6.6 special that aired on GMA-7.
"Abangan ninyo ho. Abangan n'yo. Magsasama kami ni Lloydie, magbibigay ng saya sa inyo sa primetime show. Abangan niyo po yan dito sa GMA-7," Willie revealed. The actor is fondly called Lloydie or JLC by fans and people close to him.
John Lloyd's TV comeback has been anticipated for months. He has been on hiatus for more than four years since he decided to go on an "indefinite" leave in 2017. During those times, he spent his days in Cebu where he and his former partner, actress Ellen Adarna, stayed and raised their son, Elias.
"John Lloyd" trended on Twitter Philippines the whole time the special was airing from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
His appearance started with him singing the classic Junior Morales song "Yakap".
During the short interview with Willie, John Lloyd was seen holding back his tears when the TV host asked him how he has been and how he feels now that he's back in showbiz.
"Ayun ho. Kay Kuya Willie, nandito ako dahil sa'yo. Thank you, thank you, thank you," he said.
Noticing that John Lloyd looked emotional, Willie shared his similar experience.
"Pinagdaanan ko rin yan. Maraming tao din ang tumulong sa akin. Ang importante, Lloydie, nakausap kita, nagka-usap tayong dalawa. Napakaganda ng puso mo, napakaganda ng pagkatao mo. Mahal na mahal mo si Elias. Mahal na mahal mo yung anak mo. Nami-miss ka naming lahat. Ang galing mo. Fan mo ako, fan mo kaming lahat dahil napakabuti mong tao at napakagaling mong artista," the host said.
He added that most GMA artists want to work with John Lloyd who has recently signed with Maja Salvador's talent management agency, Crown Artist Management, Inc.
The camera showed Maja and her fiancé and business partner, Rambo Nunez in the audience. John Lloyd fondly called his new manager "Ms. M".
"Welcome back sa industriya kung saan ka nagsimula at alam kong hindi tayo magtatapos ngayon. Welcome back, John Lloyd Cruz," Willie shared.
The host also acknowledged director Bobot Mortiz who he said was instrumental in John Lloyd's appearance in GMA-7. Bobot and Willie created and developed ABS-CBN's "Wowowee" (2005 to 2010), the earlier iteration of "Wowowin" currently airing on GMA-7.
John Lloyd joined Willie in hosting the segment "Shopee Milyonaryo: Pera o Kahon". The actor used to stand-in as guest host in "Wowowee".
While hosting the segment, Willie asked John Lloyd how his heart is faring at the moment.
"Masayang-masaya," quipped a smiling John Lloyd.
The show ended with all the other guest hosts in the special including Jennylyn Mercado, who welcomed John Lloyd in GMA-7. The two starred in the 2016 movie "Just the 3 of Us".
