Young Pinay brings home ice skate gold

MANILA, Philippines – Eleven-year-old Katrina Amber Cruz, representing SM International Mall of Asia (SMIPH), won a gold medal in the ISIAsia Championship Series 2019 held recently at the Sub-Zero Ice Skate Club Megabangna in Bangkok, Thailand. 

With more than 2,200 events, 621 skaters from the USA, China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau, Vietnam, and UAE competed in the Skate Asia 2019 on Aug. 3-10 with SMIPH ranking third out of the 34 participating rinks.

Cruz earned a gold medal in the stroking beta event. She bagged three silver medals in the character spotlight, surprise, and solo compulsory event and a bronze medal in the technical event.

She started figure skating in December 2018 under coach Randy Anonuevo. Currently a Grade 6 student at the Holy Family School of Quezon City, she balances her training and studies as she consistently maintains her honor standing.
