Ray Parks' one-year deal with TNT a 'win-win' situation

The one-year contract that incoming sophomore Bobby Ray Parks Jr. signed with TNT KaTropa is a ‘win-win’ situation for both sides as the Fil-Am guard gets a chance to prove himself once again.

That is what TNT governor and PBA board chairman Ricky Vargas said after an agreement was reached between the two sides with Parks reportedly set to receive a maximum monthly pay of P420,000.
“I think the guy wants to prove himself… one-year contract to really prove himself, to show his capability and his real potential. It’s (also) good enough for us to take a look at him again,” said Vargas.
“I think that’s a win-win situation for us.”
Drafted second overall in 2018 by Blackwater, Parks’ previous contract which was inherited by TNT recently expired. Parks was dealt by the Elite to the KaTropa in the Governors’ Cup last season.
He averaged 12.2 points with 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals with the KaTropa, and overall had 19 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 steals in two conferences of his rookie year.
Parks missed the Philippine Cup and only joined the Elite during the Commissioner’s Cup as he opted to finish his commitment with the ALAB Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).
Vargas said the one-year deal with Parks would be evaluated after the season, where he hopes the son of the late Bobby Parks – a seven-time PBA Best Import – gets comfortable with the TNT system.
“We get to know him better, and he gets to know what Talk ’N Text is all about, its values and its on mission and he shares that with us. A year is enough,” said Vargas.
Asked if a longer deal was offered, Vargas said yes.
“It was part of the negotiation…. we did that, then it was back and forth. We both agreed that one year is a good position,” he said. #pba
