Jomary Torres says her confidence is growing ahead of ONE assignment
JAKARTA, Indonesia — One year ago, Jomary Torres could barely answer questions from the press. In her limited words, she noted that she’d rather have her fighting do the talking.
And boy did it speak volumes.
Now riding on a win streak as a professional, the Zamboanga native looks to harness more of her confidence at it swells.
Torres will be facing Southeast Asian Game bronze medalist Pricilla Gaol in the “Conquest of Heroes” showpiece here on Saturday night.
“Medyo nabawasan na, hindi tulad nung sa Macau, first time kasi ‘yun eh,” she said of her shyness. “Sa probinsya wala kasing ganun, ‘yung mga interview na maraming tao, maraming picture. Ngayon nasasanay na rin ako.”
Torres said she understands that the victories entail letting a bit of her guard down as her career with the promotion furthers.

After all, this is the sport she has chosen.
“Medyo parang nagustuhan ko ‘tong sports na ‘to kasi dati iba yung sports na gusto ko, yung basketball o volleyball kaya lang tumigil din ako, nung tumigil ako ng second year high school, hindi ko na naituloy-tuloy yung basketball and volleyball, kaya ito na yung fino-focus ko na sports,” she said.
Torres hopes that the sports she loves more with each fight loves her back, too, as she shoots for her fifth straight win as a professional when the card comes off wraps this Saturday at the Jakarta Convention Center.
