'Believe' battlecry does wonders for 'underdog' Magnolia
QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Although they are now one win away from the Philippine Cup title, the Magnolia Hotshots still consider themselves the underdogs of the series.
And when going up against four-time defending champion San Miguel, it isn't difficult to feel like the little guy.
As they grind it out against the Beermen, Magnolia has one battlecry on their mind: "Believe."
"Powerhouse na team ito eh, underdog kami lagi... [pero] basta maniwala lang kami, maraming nangyayari," Hotshot Mark Barroca said after the game.
Barroca hit a buzzer-beating jumper to lift Magnolia over SMB for the 3-2 lead.
Magnolia's mentor Chito Victolero also puts premium on his team's mentality and hard work in trying to close out the series.
"Kaming grupo namin naniniwala kami na as long as we work together, we work hard together, baka makaya namin," Victolero said.
The Magnolia Hotshots can end San Miguel's reign in the Philippine Cup when they attempt to finish the series in Game Six on Sunday.
