Several more tournaments wiped out by pandemic

More international football tournaments, including a regional competition, which the Philippines is hosting in May, have been postponed by the Asean Football Federation (AFF) due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The AFF announced that it was postponing competitions in the next four months, the biggest of which is the AFF Women’s Championship that was slated from May to June in the Philippines.

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) said it was also supposed to field teams in the AFF U18 Women’s Championship (June 2020), AFF U16 Boys’ Championship (July 2020), and AFF U19 Boys Championship (August 2020). These tournaments have now been moved to later dates, the PFF said.

Also shelved is the revival of the 12-team Asean Club Championship, where Philippines Football League champion Ceres-Negros was supposed to see action. The tournament has been rescheduled for next year.

The PFF said AFF Suzuki Cup, which is slated to start in November, is still pushing through as well as the AFF U15 Girls’ Championship.
