Police chief in trouble for attacking security guard
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A police official of Sharif Aguak is in hot water here after attacking a security guard on Monday afternoon (Feb. 11).
Senior Inspector Shellame Chang, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office said Senior Inspector Arasa Pala Abdin, 42, police chief of Sharif Aguak Municipal Station, attacked Demson Evasco Jr., 37, a security guard of Ultra Security Service Inc., on Monday afternoon outside the United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) at Corcuera Street, Barangay Zone 4.
“He was charged with slander by deed,” Chang said, The suspect is presently detained at the police station.
Evasco said in a statement that he accidentally stepped on the foot of Abdin’s wife while he was carrying the bags of money from the armored vehicle to the mentioned bank.
Evasco apologized to the woman but said he could not stay longer because he was on duty to deliver the bank’s money for safekeeping.
The wife, who was not identified, reported the incident to her husband Abdin, who, in turn, went inside the bank to look for Evasco.
“After calling Evasco’s attention, he instructed the guard to go with him outside the bank premises and without any provocation, slapped the guard, shouted and made some threats,” Chang said.
The guard, with the help of his company, reported the incident to the police station.
“He also called the assistance of the police present at the beat and Abdin was brought to the police station. Later, the investigators found out that the respondent is a PNP Commission Officer with a rank of Inspector at Maguindanao.”
Evasco was decided to file the case, despite several efforts made by Abdin’s camp and friends in the police station to settle the matter amicably.
“The victim did not settle and the case will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for the filing of appropriate charges in court,” Chang said.
Abdin is assigned in Maguindanao but lives in Barangay Talon-talon, this city.
