Palace wishes Briones fast recovery
MANILA, Philippines— Malacañang has expressed sadness over the news that had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and wishes that she would soon recover from the illness.
“We are sad to hear that Sec. Leonor Briones is COVD-19 positive. We are praying that she gets healed from this dreadful disease,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Thursday in a statement.
Panelo also assured Briones would continue to work despite her situation.
“Sec. Briones has been an indefatigable and conscientious member of the Cabinet. As expected and as announced by her, she will continue to perform her duties as Education Secretary while in isolation and despite her present illness,” he said.
Briones earlier said she was informed by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine she tested positive for the new coronavirus on Wednesday.
While she is in isolation, Briones said she would continue participating in meetings of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases and also preside over DepEd meetings virtually.
