Rumor and requests
Sharon Cuneta was unaware of rumors linking her eldest daughter KC Concepcion to Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap until it was brought up to her in a recent interview.
The singer-actress was at a loss for words over the matter.
“No, I am not aware (of the rumors),” she eventually said.
Then, after another pause, Sharon added: “See? I don’t know what’s happening to my daughter, in her life.”
Speculations about KC and apl.de.ap having a romantic relationship started when she posted a photo of them together on social media. Many of her followers said they look good together.
Recall that the rapper admitted in 2013 that he once courted KC.
Although surprised with the news, Sharon said she has a lot of respect for apl.de.ap.
“That’s a surprise to me so I don’t know what to say. But I have a lot of respect for apl. He’s a good person. I just wish I heard it from her (KC) if it’s true.”
‘Mother misses daughter’
Sharon is apparently having a “strange” relationship with KC for some time now.
After missing out on her mom’s birthday special on “ASAP Na’Tin ‘To,” KC greeted Sharon and apologized for her absence via Instagram post.
But what started as a birthday message turned into a plea from Sharon, asking her daughter with Gabby Concepcion to “come back to me, to us.”
In a series of posts, the Megastar detailed how she misses her eldest and that she isn’t aware of what has been going with KC’s life.
“I didn’t even know that she wasn’t coming nu’ng Dec. 31. We didn’t know. I didn’t know that we weren’t going to see her the next day. So I am worried lang about what she might be going through. It’s not like her, eh,” she said.
While she values KC’s independence, Sharon said doesn’t have an idea why her daughter is seemingly being distant to her and their family.
“Because she’s in her 30s na. She has her own life to live,” she said. “Siguro, kasi she’s older. As we grow older, maybe you feel less need to consult with your parents. But in our family kasi, kahit pinagdaanan ko rin yun, hindi pa rin nawawala yun. You always have to pay respects to your parents. Give them the respect na letting them know where you are, how you are, who you’re with.”
“Ayoko na lang yung makikita ko na lang sa diyaryo kung ano yung nangyari sa anak ko, di ba? Kung, God forbid, may masamang nangyari, may aksidente, or something. Things like that ba. Tsaka anak ko siya. I want to know. They’re my kids,” Sharon added.

The 54-year-old said the reason she resorted to writing an open letter to KC on Instagram was “because the greeting that my daughter made with explanations for her absence on my birthday celebration on ‘ASAP’ was posted on social media.”
“…I did not get naman a personal message. It’s not like her. So nag-aalala ako. Nanay ako eh. So I think it’s normal lang sa mag-ina na may panahong ganyan. I am worried lang because I don’t know what she’s going through,” she said.
“I know that she’s going to get in touch with us soon. But I miss her because for the first time, late siya nu’ng Christmas Eve, tapos wala siya nung Christmas lunch tapos talagang wala siya nung New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Ang pinakamasakit, wala akong idea kung nasaan siya nung birthday ko.”
Sharon said that amid the long posts, it boils down “to a mother missing her daughter.”
In a separate interview, Frankie Pangilinan, Sharon’s first daughter with husband Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, said she does communicate with her Ate KC but would rather not comment on the matter since “that’s not between us naman.”
Sharon met with the press right after the renewal of her contract with ABS-CBN. She revealed seven projects for her are under negotiation.
Talking about the network, its congressional franchise will expire by March. Few weeks ago, President Rodrigo Duterte reiterated his stand to block its renewal.
Sharon, who has been with ABS-CBN for 30 years, hopes for President Duterte to reconsider.
“I pray that our dear President reconsiders his decision about ABS-CBN. Not just because I renewed – I can always find a job – but everybody that I grew up with here – (those) who have remained loyal to the station, grown up here, have learned from the school of hard knocks here, have become family, good friends – will lose almost everything they’ve built over the years. And even those who might choose to stay, if indeed (it) unfortunately goes that way, it won’t be the same.
“So I hope in my heart that our dear President reconsiders the thousands and thousands of employees who have grown up here, learn the ropes here, and that includes me,” Sharon said.
