Reopening of internet shops, drive-in cinemas, other businesses under GCQ pushed

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced Tuesday it will recommend the reopening of tutorial, review centers, internet shops and even drive-in cinemas in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).

Reopening of establishments that offer personal grooming, aesthetic services and pet grooming will also be recommended to the COVID-19 task force, DTI Ramon Lopez said in an interview over Teleradyo.

“Meron po kaming mga idadagdag pa na ioopen mula sa category IV to category III. Yun po yung ididiscuss pa namin sa IATF (Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) mamaya. Katulad po ng mga ilang relatively safer na activities ay hopefully mapayagan na under GCQ,” Lopez said.

(We will add some businesses to reopen under category IV and category III. These will be taken up in the IATF meeting later. Activities that are relatively safer will hopefully be allowed in areas under GCQ.)

“Yung mga tutorial testing centers, review centers, mga internet cafes, kasi binawal din po yan dahil masyadong baka dyan nagkukumpulan ang mga bata pero kung gagamitin po for education, kaya po namin ni-reconsider na isama na i-reopen under GCQ.”

(These are testing tutorial centers, review centers, internet cafes, which were earlier barred from reopening since children might crowd in it but if these will be used for education, we reconsidered reopening this under GCQ.)

“Establishments offering other personal grooming and aesthetic services, pet grooming, even yung mga proposal na drive-in cinemas,” he went on.

The IATF earlier allowed the reclassification of industries allowed to operate under different quarantine levels to further boost businesses amid the pandemic.
